MEMBERSHIP AWARDS

OHBC honored Aubrey & Paul Allen with WVBHS Lifetime Membership Awards in
a special surprise recognition event during morning worship service. Both
Allen brothers are long time members of OHBC, and have contributed
tirelessly over the years to our Oak Hill Baptist Church family. |
Aubrey & Paul Allen are the third and
fourth sons of Carl & Posie (Nugen) Allen. Their oldest brother,
Bill and sister Helen Costy are deceased. All Four children and
Posie united with OHBC. Mrs. Allen moved her letter from Beckley's
First Baptist on July 2, 1939. She served as a Sunday School Teacher
and was an active member of the Hylbert Stickler Circle. Mr.Carl
Allen was a member of the Methodist Church.
Aubrey Allen
Aubrey was born on December 9, 1923
at Dunloup. He was baptized and united with First Baptist Church
Beckley in December 11, 1934. He graduated from Oak Hill High School
and then served with the US Army Air Force from 1942-1945. While in
service he worked as a clerk at various bases and later became a
paratrooper. He married June Estep on Easter Sunday 1952. They
had daughters: Anita, Angel, Shawna, & Missy. After June's
death Aubrey married Sylvia Lawson on October 24, 1996. Most of his
working life was in hte building and construction trade. Over the
years he has done volunteer work on various projects at Camp Cowen.
At the present time he is an active member on the Cross Chapel Sunday
School Class and serves on the Board of Trustees and on the House
Committee.
Paul Allen
Paul was born on August 27, 1929 in
Oak Hill. He united with Oak Hill Baptist Church on July 17, 1939.
A graduate of Oak Hill High School in 1947, he then attended WVU.
During the Korean War (1951-1955) he served in the US Navy as a radar
operator on early warning flights. Paul married Faith Pleasant on
December 25, 1955. They are parents of daughter Kathy and son
Mark. Paul's working years were also in the building and
construction trade where he worked primarily as an estimator. At the
present time he too is a member of the Cross Chapel Sunday School Class,
serves as Chairman of the Trustee Board, and is a member of the Finance
Committee.
Both brothers have served as deacons
and both have generously lent their carpentry and other building skills to
the beautiful renovation of the parsonage and in various projects in the
church. We, the OHBC family, express our sincere gratitude for these
two brothers who have served so faithfully! |
